This talisman necklace is made with a very cool piece of Manto Huichol Obsidian stone. A chunky oval shape with a lustrous shine, the stone appears dark from afar, but when in sunlight reveals its mixture of colours within. Swirling-smoke like patterns of with a mix of dark mauve, greens and blue – it’s a beautiful example. The name ‘Manto Huichol Obsidian’ comes from the Huicholes or Wixarikas (of Nahuatl-Aztec roots) from the North West of Mexico. These are the guardians of the sacred Peyote cactus. The name of the Obsidian refers to the swirling, smoke-like visions produced by taking Peyote during ceremony.  🏜️

Obsidians are a form of volcanic glass, which was used in sacred rituals by ancient cultures in both Central and South America. It is known for its grounding and protective properties.

The Ayahuasca piece above the stone is known locally as ‘Yellow Tiger’s Paw’ and comes from the vine of the plant, here it is called ‘Flor de Ayahuasca // Flower of the Ayahuasca’ due to its flower-like pattern inside. The Ayahuasca is coated in a resin to enhance its pattern and natural colours. Ayahuasca is an incredibly sacred plant of the Amazon, used by indigenous peoples for millennia in their ceremonies of healing (both physical & spiritual) and connection with Mother Nature. Known as ‘La Planta Madre // The Mother Plant’, to wear an actual piece of the plant, is to maintain a connection to it and to Mother Nature always.
