These authentic textiles are handmade by native Shipibo-Konibo women of the Ucayali region of Eastern Peru. This beautiful textile piece has a striking blue snake (boa) that meanders like the Ucayali river. Alongside are bright pink leaves with a four-coloured flower. The background of zigzagging icaros is a stunning vivid orange thread.

This circular piece is made from tocuyo fabric, which is the traditional, natural cotton. It is dyed from its natural ecru colour to darker brown using roots and other plant-based dyes, then left to dry out in the hot sun.

Embroidered entirely by hand, their designs are influenced by the sacred Ayahuasca plant (The Mother Plant), with complex geometric patterns which are a visual representation of their spirit world. The textiles carry a healing or blessing and are sung like a musical score, which is called an Icaro. The patterns represent the vibrational frequency of the Icaros, as it appears in the visual world of Ayahuasca.

These are original textile pieces coming from the Amazon region, created by working Shipibo mothers and grandmothers. We source them directly from the artesanas themselves and have become friends with many of them over the years.
