These authentic textiles are handmade by native Shipibo-Konibo women of the Ucayali region of Eastern Peru. This sweet little textile has bold, symmetrical Kené at the centre, using bright teal, pink and spring green thread colours. Within the natural environment where the Shipibo live you can see many animals, fish and plants which display Kené patterns.

This little piece is made from tocuyo fabric, which is the traditional, natural cotton. It is dyed from its natural ecru colour to darker brown using roots and other plant-based dyes, then left to dry out in the hot sun.

Embroidered entirely by hand, their designs are influenced by the sacred Ayahuasca plant (The Mother Plant), with complex geometric patterns which are a visual representation of their spirit world. The textiles carry a healing or blessing and are sung like a musical score, which is called an Icaro. The patterns represent the vibrational frequency of the Icaros, as it appears in the visual world of Ayahuasca.

These are original textile pieces coming from the Amazon region, created by working Shipibo mothers and grandmothers. We source them directly from the artesanas themselves and have become friends with many of them over the years.

This circular textile is beautifully intricate, vibrantly colourful, one-of-a-kind and has taken hours of needlework to embroider. You will be the holder of a true piece of Shipibo culture and wisdom, the holder of a physical piece of art that represents their unique bond with nature. 🌿
